Principal

Scott has over 25 years of experience as a civil trial attorney with a primary focus on real estate, contract and commercial disputes, insurance, and product liability matters. Scott has extensive trial experience and has obtained hundreds of advantageous settlements for his clients. He has significant appellate, arbitration, and mediation experience. He frequently serves as an arbitrator.

Scott’s real estate and commercial litigation practice covers the entire range of such disputes, including title insurance, condemnation, boundary, easement, access, title disputes, adverse possession and prescriptive easement claims, partition, unlawful detainer, foreclosure, financing, breach of contract, injunctions, non-competition agreements, shareholder derivative claims, and business dissolution actions.

Scott’s product liability experience includes the successful defense of manufacturers of heavy equipment, small machines, cooking equipment, containers, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals.

During law school, Scott interned at the U.S. Supreme Court. After graduating from law school, he clerked for the Honorable Jerome Farris, U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Scott chairs the litigation practice group and serves on the firm's Exceutive Committee.

Education and Admissions

Scott received his J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law (University of California at Berkeley) in 1981. He graduated from Stanford University in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.

Scott is admitted to practice in Washington, and before the U.S. District Court, Western and Eastern Districts of Washington, and the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Professional and Community Activities

Long active in community and professional organizations, Scott served as President of the King County Bar Association, Chair of the Washington State Supreme Court Access to Justice Board, and as a member of the American Arbitration Association Northwest Regional Advisory Council.

Awards and Recognition

Scott is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, is listed in Who’s Who in American Law, and has been named a Washington Super Lawyer®, and one of the state’s top 40 real estate lawyers. He has provided pro bono legal services since law school and received the Washington State Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award. He also received the Helen Geisness Award for exemplary and distinguished service on behalf of the King County Bar Association.
