Merkys I. Gómez
Associate
Merkys joined Riddell Williams in the fall of 2007 and is a member of the Litigation and Intellectual Property practice groups.
Before joining the firm, Merkys was a litigation associate at Butler Rubin Saltarelli & Boyd LLP in Chicago, and practiced in both the Complex Business Litigation and the Reinsurance practice groups where she appeared in federal and state court proceedings in civil disputes and drafted various pleadings and motions.
While in law school, Merkys was a summer law clerk for the Chicago Transit Authority and for Equip for Equity, a not-for-profit organization that advocates for the civil rights of individuals with disabilities, and a volunteer summer law clerk with the Illinois Attorney General.
Prior to law school, Merkys worked as a Regional Manager for the American Lung Association of Michigan where she worked on a variety of lung health-related issues.
Education and Admissions
Merkys received her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law in 2005, with a concentration in Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution. She was named to the Dean’s list, and she founded the Northwestern Journal of Law & Social Policy. While at Northwestern Law, Merkys participated in the Complex Civil Litigation Clinic, and tried a Prisoner Civil Rights Case, where she took an expert deposition, and presented the opening statement and direct examinations.
Merkys received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she interned for a State Senator at the Michigan State Senate. She received a double major in English and Political Science. Merkys remains a proud Wolverine fan.
Merkys is admitted to practice in Washington and Illinois state courts, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (General and Trial Bar), and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Professional and Community Activities
Merkys is a volunteer with Volunteer Advocates for Immigrant Justice and with the American Lung Association of Washington. She serves as a board member for the Latina/o Bar Association of Washington, and a board member for the King County Washington Women Lawyers. Merkys also volunteers her time in various other community activities.
Merkys grew up in Miami, Florida, and speaks fluent Spanish.
